Richmond’s Civil War Prisons
Thousands of Union soldiers were imprisoned in Richmond camps during the war. Learn about the stories of the men who were held captive at Belle Isle, Libby Prison, Castle Thunder, Castle Godwin, and McDaniel’s Negro Jail. At 1 p.m. a focused tour of In the Cause of Liberty will be provided by Center educator Jenny Didas. Visitors will also have an opportunity to role play and learn the secrets of prison camp survival. At 2 p.m. join NPS historian Mike Gorman for a talk on Belle Isle Prison in the NPS Visitor Center Theater. A walking tour of Belle Isle will follow. Fee: $10 or free with paid admission.

Richmond Folk Festival
Last year nearly 180,000 people made their way to historic downtown Richmond’s riverfront for a fantastic weekend of music, dance, and culture from throughout the world. The Richmond Folk Festival will include seven stages and more than 30 performing groups, Virginia Folk Life demonstration area, Folk Arts Marketplace, ethnic foods and more. The American Civil War Center and National Park Service will present educational programs throughout the weekend. Free admission.

Hot Stuff: Civil War Iron Making
Join historians Andy Talkov and Paul Fritz for a talk and demonstration on the art of casting cannon during the 19th century. 1 p.m. Fee: $10 or free with paid admission.

Richmond Civil War PassFinally, visitors to Richmond can experience the Civil War full circle for one low price as the American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar, the Museum of the Confederacy, and the National Park Service offer a joint ticket to view all three sites.
