Richmond's Civil War Hospitals
Saturday, November 8, 2008

Fee: FREE
Mike Gorman, NPS Ranger, will discuss Richmond’s Civil War Hospitals in the NPS Theater.
Chuck Raugh will address the evolution of the military field hospital system and 19th Century surgical technique using authentic medical equipment of the period.
Time: 3:30 p.m.
Fee: $10 or free with paid admission or Center membership
The American Civil War Center’s educator Jenny Didas will lead a 30 minute artifact walking tour through the exhibit In the Cause of Liberty. Her program will explore the lives of famous Civil War nurses: Phoebe Yates Pember, Dorothea Dix, Clara Barton, Susie King Taylor and Sarah Emma Edmunds disguised as Franklin Thompson. Lincoln and the South
March 12-14, 2009
The Center’s second major conference, Lincoln and the South, will be held at the University of Richmond. Probably no president has ever been as vilified as Abraham Lincoln was in the South during the Civil War. Outstanding scholars on the subject will convene to discuss this bitter relationship. This enlightening event is offered in partnership with the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond during the bicentennial of Lincoln’s birth.
